Provision of MEL E-Learning Materials for Heifer International

I4DI is creating 11 online training modules based on Heifer International’s new monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) system manual and ten linked guides. The manual and linked guides operationalize various aspects of Heifer International’s new MEL Plan Package (MPP). This MPP provides structure to how Heifer International conducts MEL activities across the organization. The set of self-directed, interactive, online training modules will facilitate Heifer International’s staff awareness and understanding of this new guidance, and help the institutionalization of its prescribed forms and practices.

I4DI’s approach for developing this suite of MPP training modules for Heifer’s staff is grounded in the Institute’s deep in-person and online MEL capacity-building experience with donor and national partner governments, multilateral institutions, NGO development assistance organizations, and private sector firms working in the international development field.

I4DI has developed a sequenced learning process through which: audiences become familiar with the concepts and content being taught; see-through examples of how the learning content applies to their work environment and its requirements; engage in systematically learning those portions of the content they are expected to know and use, and participate in skill-building exercises that strengthen their ability to apply what they have learned. Accordingly, I4DI is building this learning progression into the training modules as it predictably yields positive capacity enhancement results.

In addition, I4DI’s learning platform provides an opportunity to assess the learners’ knowledge acquisition through using both ungraded knowledge checks and graded quizzes. Training modules will be accessible at any time through Heifer’s learning platform on their computers or cell phones.
