Convening for Equity and Social & Environmental Impact
A Message From Azra Nurkic, I4DI Co-Founder and CEO

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we cannot ignore the profound effects of war on women and children, who are often the most vulnerable victims. My work in post-war Bosnia and Herzegovina showed me firsthand the devastating impact of conflict on communities, particularly on women and children who experience displacement, trauma, and violence. The scars of conflict are long-lasting and can take generations to heal, reinforcing the critical need to prioritize sustainable peace-building and inclusive development. Taking a systems perspective, utilizing evidence-based approaches, and recognizing the unique needs and experiences of all individuals, regardless of gender or other identity factors, is essential for long-term success. By prioritizing inclusivity and promoting gender equality, we can create a more equitable and prosperous society for everyone.
I4DI was born from this mission and is dedicated to using cutting-edge research, advisory services and technology to help aid and development actors design, implement, and measure the impact of their programs. With over two and a half decades of experience in various development contexts, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the challenges that hinder sustainable development. These challenges include the need for improved coordination among aid organizations, greater data sharing, and use of evidence in decision-making. At I4DI, we strive to address these challenges by applying our passion for learning and innovation to improve how people and organizations make evidence-based decisions that benefit our planet and society.
This week, as we celebrate Bosnia-Herzegovina Independence Day and International Women’s Day, we reflect on the strides that have been made towards gender equality while recognizing the pressing need for sustained advocacy, education, and action. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine serves as a stark reminder of the work that remains to be done. Together, we must work to create a world with equal access to opportunities and resources for everyone. At I4DI, we remain dedicated to fostering inclusion and gender equality through collaboration, and an unwavering appreciation for the resilience and strength of women around the world.
